I dont know how the inside of the ram is designed exactly. I wonder if I can just put a pipe fitting in the ram or if that will put pressure in the wrong portion of the cylinder.

What are you trying to do? Replace a bad hose? It would help to know details. There are ends available that can rese the metal end of a hose via a compression or braze/weld on hose end.

Yes I need to replace the hose assembly.
the fitting in picture is of the left side ram.
The right side fitting is broke. It had been re-used at least twice.
