TO30 Block shot. Can TO20 engine be used instead?

I have a TO30 that threw a rod through the right side of the block. Took out the distributor. Laying on the ground ten feet away from the tractor. The engine wouldn't run anymore. Would be funny if you didn't love old U.S. iron. So I bought an old TO20 that was advertised as being in running condition. My question is: Can I swap the TO20 engine into the TO30? It looks the same. The TO30 has one more gear than the TO20 but that shouldn't matter. I'm just looking to get the old grey horse back to working. The old TO20 is not worth restoring. Going to pick her bones and sell the rest. I've rebuilt a TO30 engine and two 8N engines so far. I'm in N. Georgia, so anyone who needs TO20 parts can call me. Would love to see her live on in other tractors.

I just looked for old posts and found that yes the z120 can replace the z 129 engine. A bit less HP but will still work.

The Z120 from a TO20 will bolt up in place of the Z129 however the generator mount is different. The Z120 generator is mounted on a flat bar sandwiched between the engine and axle mount.

The TO20 and TO30 should have the same number of gears. If you bought a three speed tractor, are you sure it isn't a Ford-Ferguson 9N or 2N? Sounds like you're familiar with both Fords and Fergusons so I'm curious what your three speed TO20 is.

I have a 135 block near Nashville that you can have for free if you come get it. It has the usual cracks in the webs between cylinders
but those can be brazed.

I was working from memory. I am familiar with the 2N-8Ns and less so with the Fergusons. I will go out and look at the gear pattern on the donor tractor. I have what has been advertised as a good engine, but haven't checked it out so far. Too many other projects. Right now I'm trying to find a spindle for a Dale Phillips 3 point finish mower. Everybody wants me to give them a model number, etc. There are none. Best I can find is a sticker that say DooBob. Must mean something to Dale Phillips guys. I tried to call their plant in Alabama, but the number is no good.

Thank you. That is very generous of you. But, I have a donor tractor that is otherwise in really bad condition. The engine is supposed to still be good, so I'll try that first. Just too many balls in the air right now.

Anyway, thanks.
