Farmall B starter

I have a Farmall B (serial number - FAB201440, Chicago, IL) that needs a new or rebuilt starter. It has a gas engine and is powered with a 6 volt system. The original equipment, I believe, is a Delco 1107021 with a saddle mounted start switch that is oriented in a way that the operator pushes the linkage with his foot from the seat in order to start the tractor . As I have searched for an aftermarket starter all that I have been able to find are starters that after install would have the switch turned around 180 degrees so that the linkage would have to be modified in order to start the tractor. I would rather not have to altar the design of the starting mechanism. Where can I find the correct starter for this model tractor?

Are you sure you can't just remove the two bolts holing the starter together and rotate the nose piece the 180?

Been many years since I had the starter off my BN apart so maybe not.

What is wrong with your old one? If you can't fix it yourself, take it to an auto electrical shop and have it fixed.

(quoted from post at 22:46:10 10/05/22) The saddle mounted start switch can be rotated. Just take screws out and rotate 180 degrees.

This is where a picture would be handy. I was thinking the poster was saying the switch was out of position in relation to the nose housing not that the switch was mounted backwards on the starter.

As a side note I was surprised at the prices those starters are going for these days.

Thank you for all of the comments. I included a picture of the current design on my tractor (this is not my tractor but a pic of one that I found). The orientation allows for the linkage to be pushed with
your foot to start. All of the aftermarket starters have the post/terminal on the opposite end of the starter so that the saddle mounted switch has to be turned around to mount it. This essentially changes
the design so that the stock linkage would have to be modified to start the tractor.

Right. You can't just turn the switch around. The contact and mounting holes are not positioned to allow that. This is one of the reasons for fixing the original. Replacements that allow the switch to mount normally seem to be hard to find.

Yes, correct. The switch cannot be simply turned around. And it is appearing more and more that you are correct in that this is the reason to rebuild than buy aftermarket parts.

no that does not work as the button on the starter will be in the wrong
position you can replace with a new button and turn it so the sw will work
