IH 5 bar rake problem

So one of the 5 bars it badly worn and has a lot of slop in it where it mounts. Each end the holes where the bar bolts on have a lot of slop in them so the bar does not sit tight like it should.

ANY idea as to how to fix this problem. I know a new bar is likely not to be had and if it was it would probably cost more then what the rake is worth.

Thanks

Find a piece of Chrome Moly Tubing the size of the worn hole and use it as a welded on bushing. It can be split to allow it to conform to the bar. Jim

For the bar we just used some thinner steel curved it and then welded it to the bar to shim up the slop. this ws on both an old Deere and IH rakes. The holes could be drilled out and bigger bolts used to tighten that up. If the bar was tightened up in the bushing the other slop might be needed to help with keeping the bar aligned so it doesn't break it.

My old IH 5 bar, has replaceable bushings on each end of the bar. Not sure if those replaceable ends are still available.

For what it's worth, some of my ends are worn and got some slop in them. I just keep them greased up really good, and go. I'm not to concerned about them, but I do keep my travel speed down when raking. 6 or 7 mph is about all the faster I rake, so worn stuff don't go flying apart just because I'm driving like a bat out of ????.

I actually think they can take quite a little abuse before they actually shell out and come apart (bar comes detached).

My experience was with the old 3-bar and 4-bar rakes, but I assume the same thing applies. You will ruin the crop long before you are going fast enough to ruin the rake. Raking too fast will knock the leaves off and you harvest the stems!

You won't loose a bar until you wear clear through it.
