Ideal Tractor For Me?

I'm thinking the Farmall 450 (gas) would be an ideal tractor for me because: 1) it is 12 volt 2) it has power steering 3) it has fast hitch which can use 3 point equipment 4) it has independent power take off. I want to use the 450 for: a) operating a 9' hay cutter/conditioner b) a post hole digger c) possibly my John Deere model 42 pull type combine d) MAYBE a post driver e) a shredder f) moving 4' round bales via rear spear. For all these purposes, I feel a narrow front is fine.
I do have a Farmall 300 but it is a bit underpowered and has no power steering.
FYI, I had a Farmall 460 and HATED that pos!
Whadddya think? kelly

First off - I like a Farmall 450 and would be glad to have one. I do see a couple of problems with your plan though. Depending on the setup of the fast hitch/ 3 point a post hole auger may not work as well as on some other tractor as they usually dont need a separate top link and so the geometry can be a problem if the hitch is non standard. Otherwise the hitch travel range may be shorter than ideal for one. Also, depending on how your post driver is operated Id be a little concerned about the possibility of overheating the hydraulics. Just my thoughts. Sam

If you've got a 3pt post hole auger you just need the right set of adapter points with ball ends on them, and an attachment point for the top link at the upper rockshaft of the fast hitch mechanism.

The mechanical draft control style fast hitches on the 450 have an ideal place to mount the top link attachment point. Used with some restraint the down pressure will be handy with the post hole auger. Used with reckless abandon, you'll need a new post hole auger.

They run post drivers off Farmall Super As, so I doubt hydraulic will be an issue.

I think you got the right size in mind, for what your wanting to do.

I've never had a 450/460, so no advice there.

What was wrong with your 460? A lemon? Or diesel, and you didn't like that? Or just had a lot of problems with it?

If it was features and characteristics you didn't like about the 460, are you gonna have those same issues and concerns with the 450?

Since you want a dredded 3pt ,I would move on up to the 06or 56 series and not look back.Better power steering hydraulics and PTO with all of it live. 756 is only about 65-70 HP so not a lot bigger but would be handier for a lot of those jobs. Both Fast hitch and 3 pt can be found on them.

Just so you know if checking one out. Not all had 12 volt, 2 point or power steering. May have now even if not sold that way.
