Hi all, I just purchased my late grandfathers 706 that Ive been looking for for 16 years. Unfortunately its been sitting parked outside all those years and needs quite a bit of tlc. A neighbor knows of a guy with a worn out 656 for cheap money with a new injection pump and injectors (both are 282s). I cant get there to look at it for another week or two. Im wondering how many parts will interchange between a 706 and 656. Things I need are the injection pump, fuel supply/return lines, fenders, grille, pto linkage.
Thanks

The grille will fit, and if it's an early 656 it will even be the same style.

Upper fenders are the same. Lower brackets are different due to different shaped axle housings.

I think the 706 engine runs a few hundred RPM faster than the 656, and that is governed in the injection pump if I'm not mistaken.

Injection nozzles are the same. The pump on the 656 is a load advance pump while the injection pump for a 706 is a speed advance pump due to the increase rpm's on the 706.

Pump would fit right on but would most likely have a flutter at higher rpm's due to timing advance difference and might require different governor spring for higher rpm's.

IH did use a load advance pump on the 660 and it ran 2400 rpm rated speed and 706 is 2300 rpm. I personally liked the load advance pump over the speed advance because it made for a smoother running engine under load. Might rattle a little more at no load speeds though.
