painting front rims

I while back I posted a message about the LPS paint I used on my 300 rims. Since that time I had the rims sand blasted and powder coated. The cost was minimal when compared to the primer and paint costs. I just got them back today and have a couple of pictures to share. I will never paint front rims again!!!! The second picture has some color distortion since I am using a clamp on grow light to illuminate my work area. I didn't realize the grow light would do that to the colors. I also have painters tape around the areas I am painting red, so that doesn't help with the color either. This silver paint is harder than nails and will last forever.

Looks nice. I bet the powder coat will be real durable.
So, why paint the rim clamps red? Most people just leave them silver as well. And if bolted to inside of the hub, you can't really see much of them anyways.
I always bolt up with them to the inside. The only time I bolt them to outside, is if I need to widen the front wheels for soft ground. But that makes steering harder, so when done with soft ground, they get moved back to the inside narrowing the front wheels up.

I think it looks great and the distorted one looks kinda cool. What I want to know is, what are you growing in the back of that shed? gm :)

Probably just getting an early start on his tomatoes for spring!

I hope you have better luck than I did with powder coating. It wasnt prepped properly and started peeling after a couple years. Never again.

IH would not have painted part of the rim red, they would be all galvanized. They stopped painting the outside of mower wheels blue in 1939 to save 2 cents per mower.

The cost was $80 per rim. By the time I bought a can of the primer with filler in it and the two cans of the LPS paint (that are junk since they were almost 10 years old and have only a 3 year shelf life), my cost was $46. That does not take into account my time or labor. So for this price I should not have to ever worry about ever having it wear off allowing the rims to rust. I have painted the rims already three times quickly with a bush in the past years to stop the rust.

The two Hs my Dad had, the rims were painted just like these with the red brackets. I guess I don't remember seeing any that were painted red.

Actually the grow lights were my brother-in-law's and he passed away 4 years ago. So I took them thinking they would be good for things like painting these rims, or shining light on my drill press. When I got them home, I realized they were grow lights since grew a lot of plants like orchards, etc.

Pretty sure it was not a factory thing. Cause they would have been galvanized dip. I have never saw any with the mounts being red.
