It runs !!!!

I accidentally started my S/A today.
After many months trying it started.
I was trying to get the front blade up off the ground so my son in law could tow it.
I was told I would need 95 psi compression for it to fire. I checked and I only had
40, 50, 55 & 60 so my only hope was towing.

I thought maybe the hydraulics from the motor spinning might lift it so I pulled the
ring & it started!
I still had the tin can over the exhaust pipe & the tarp over the engine.
The can can off & fell between the valve cover & the exhaust pipe & it burned a hole through the tarp.

I suggest you use the Twisted Belt method to start it. That is much safer and you can tinker with various settings while the motor is turning.

Yeah, nobody said 95. There were a couple of mentions of 90 but with the caveat "and run well."

Minimum compression can in fact be much lower and the engine will still start. 50 is about as low as you can go and expect it to fire off the starter. It may not run well and it will not have a ton of power with compression around 50, and it will likely have some blowby and smoke.

Now that it has run a bit I bet if you test compression again, you will find that it has come up some.

checking compression on a cold engine sitting a long time is not accurate. cyl's are dry and will never register correctly. engine must be warm when doing the check.

Well I am sure that was a welcome surprise! I was about to chime in on the misunderstanding of the info in the other post about the needed compression. But looking at some of your other posts I see it says you are 90 years old. Well with that I will say I hope at 90 I still have the gumption to play with tractors!! Congratulations on the start and keep on tractoring! Rick
