backhoe attachment

I have done exactly what youre asking about. With a 53 Super M and a Saginaw hitch. Several things I would say about it. It was very hard on the top link connection point. The tractor was a little too tall for the hoe I had, the stabilizers only just reached the ground. At the same point it was so far behind the tractor that any serious change of ground angle (such as driving up on a trailer) would drive the hoe into the ground. Also the front end (wide front) was very light. This was with an 8 rated hoe.

All that being said it did work, the hydraulics (self contained) were sufficiently fast with the tractor just over idle, and it sure beat a shovel. I did sell the hoe because it just didnt work well enough for me, a lot of which had to do with having a very hilly property. I now have a much flatter place and would pick one up again if I find one for the right price.

Yes they make such a piece of equipment but they don't work well and are very hard on the tractor and 3 point. Had a friend who had on on his Ford Jubilee and the backhoe broke the rear end where the center link hooked up. Best to get a full frame mount type back hoe

When such a machine is digging, there is a lot of pressure on the top link. Any top link related failure will allow the hoe to fold up towards the tractor. Depending on exactly how it is attached and the location of the operator seat, the operator can be crushed between the hoe and the tractor. People have died that way. If you decide to use such a machine, be very careful about how things are attached and the risk of a failure.

One thing you can do is add some reinforcing bars that run from the hoe in the center link area and down to the axles or whereever. Some 1" bars or 2" square tubing would stiffen it up plenty and take the stress off the toplink. Plus replace the toplink with something solid. Once mounted it doesn't need an adjustable link. Any hoe that will fit on a Super M that isn't so heavy you can't drive it around isn't going to be used down at the rock quarry anyway. Should be fine for light digging.
