Replace volt regulator-Farmall Cub

Today I attempted to replace volt regulator on my 1953 Farmall Cub. Took the mounting bolts loose but the wiring would not allow regulator to come out far enough to get screwdriver on screws for terminals. Does this seem right or am i missing something? Did not have time today to take hood and gas tank off, looks like that will have to be raised to get to terminal screws unless wire harness is hooked behind something that i could not see? If the one wire would have been inch longer, no problem then.

When you grounded the field terminal did it charge then wHAT MAKES YOU THINK YOU NEED A NEW REGULATOR AND WHERE ARE YOU GOING TO GET IT

Another of Harvesters classic blunders---making the
hood & gas tank one piece.
It would have been so much more convenient service
wise to have the hood separate from the gas tank.

I forget if the gen. pulley is the adjustable sheave
type or not, but if the gen. tightens the belt, you
may be able to remove the adjustment bolt to gain
access to the VR.
Tight quarters.
