Interesting oil filter on my new tractor. I think I can get a wix filter for it from the parts store in town. Question is, how would this have been serviced in the '40s ? Buy new ? Or clean somehow?

looks like the sock type filter. you remove and clean them. the 22-36 had a cleanable oil filter also. my WD40 has a cleanable diesel fuel filter, kinda like that. no replaceable fuel filters on that engine. best would be to get to oil filter housing of a newer engine, that way can buy the oil filters.

Look at DeLux filter #CU, IHC filter 70690H or 151664H1, Baldwin CU406,
Fleetguard LF506,Carquest 85002. All those #s should fit the same housing. If it will fit yours I don't know.

Fram CH341 might be worth a look also.

Just realized I saw one of those pics before. Theres a few of us here in that group. If it were mine, and I couldn't find a steady supply of those filters, Id just change it back to the original type.

This one was on my '41 Farmall M when I bought in back in '87. Had a hard time finding filters. NAPA had to special order it from somewhere.
Thirty years ago I found the newer style and installed it. This one holds four quarts when operating, that's half of the engine's supply.
To service the filter you need to remove the hood.

Southern Ray. That triangle thing looks like mine. As do the 2 bolts on bottom. Any numbers on yours? Anything on old filter?

This was sitting in a corner of my shed for the past thirty years. I dug it out yesterday for a picture. Number has long since faded.

(quoted from post at 23:15:31 03/01/20) Duner Wi what about this? What do i do with the screw in part on bottom?

Not Duner here but I have a question.

Have you tried to remove that part that is threaded in there? Looking at the picture I can't think you could do any damage to the filter so I'd see if it will just pull out.

Just guessing that that is actually part of the filter housing and suppose to stay inside the housing. Maybe a stand pipe that goes up into the filter to distribute the oil through the center of the sock type filter?

As old as it looks there could be a bit of rust on the tube up inside or just nasty junk holding it from sliding off like it should!

Ken, my older son was here last night and
said they same thing! He said I ain't
gonna hurt it none , pull the metal out
of the middle! We will try that today.
Thanks for agreeing with him! Lol.
