I have a 1456 that I have lost the steering, brakes, so basically the front pump is not working. It makes a hell of a noise in the housing. My first thought was the PTO gear but the back pump works as does the PTO and the 3pt.if the PTO gear is gone shouldn't they not work either. So my question is do I have a PTO gear issue or a MCV pump issue??

Take the cover off the bottom under the clutch look up int there and see if it is turning ok with a load on it. If not theres your problem. If it turns ok then it is in the MCV or the Steering pump behind bolted to it.
Is the filter changed recently also. Oil level up good?

Well usually if the PTO will run a load then the IDPTo is not the problem . SOoooooo lets start off with is your hyd fluid level at or above the full line on the stick, if yes then did you change the hyd. filter and install a new GSKT.?????If yes then is your filter cover matting face flat and no humps at the bolt holes ?????? If no then flatten the bolt holes are flat to the face. IF you are low on Hdy. fluid and it says add a gallon then add FIVE . Is the tractor setting level or is the nose pointing up hill ?? if pointing up hill then get it turned so it is level or a little down hill and recheck fluid level. Next start the tractor and run at 1800-to 2000RPM and turn the steering wheel to the left and keep turning it as this will help bleed air from the system. This will not make a huge mess on the floor or ground like removing the 5/8 wrench size plug on the back of the MCV will ( you are not fast enough to get her shut down before you dump two to five gallon on the ground ) But it will bleed any trapped air). You may have a stuck flow divider valve in the MCV as i am no there looking and checking and can not be sure of your problem . just some things to check.
