Farmall 656 Hydro Row Crop

Looking for some advice, please. I have a hydraulic oil leak beneath the operator platform of my 656 Hydro row crop (where the driver's feet rest). I see 4 bolts with their heads above the platform, but only one of those bolts will back out. The remaining three just spin. They spin easily but the heads never clear the height of the platform, There is pretty much no hand or finger access to the area directly below the platform, but by shining a light in there, I fail to see any nut on the threaded end of the bolt. I tried wedging the blade of a screw driver between the head of the bolt and the top of the platform and prying while I turn the bolt, but nothing gives. It just turns and turns. Has anyone removed a similar platform? Is there a secret to removing these bolts? I would appreciate any guidance. --Lee

Those bolts pass through spacers that are probably 2" tall and thread into the casting below. Typical for them to rust/seize into those spacers making them very difficult to remove. Probably easiest to cut the heads off, remove the platform and then have access to remove the remainder. Hope they haven't already twisted off in the casting or you will be drilling them out!

I have a hydro 70 same set up. When putting deck back on use threaded rod where the bolts go then spacers before putting deck back on. Then take each short rod out and replace with bolts. I worked for a couple hours trying to put mine back on before that little trick dawned on me.

Thanks. I had a heck of a time getting the bolts out of the spacers today. I finally put vise grips around the spacers and spun the bolts with an impact wrench to loosen them. The platform was too tight in the space to remove it with the bolts still in it. I had been wondering how I would ever get the spacers back into place. I appreciate the plan that you suggested. --Lee

I just positon the platform and then install the spacers underneath. There might be one spacer that sits between a hydraulic line and you cannot reach under to positon it. Another thing, I usually cut a small part of the platform off at the rear where it is miserable to remove and install. Makes like easier and a nice clean cut will never even be noticed. Main thing is to have every thing clean so you don't get crap down those bolt holes and lubricate them really good.
