Hello. I have a farmall super c with a serial number 169908. I can't seem to find any info online of a year built or anything with that serial number. I was hoping someone on here might be able to help me out. Thank you.

In looking at the production records for 1953 at the Louisville IH facility where the Super C's were produced your tractor s/n 169908 was produced in April 1953. The first tractor made in April 1953 was s/n 167866 and the last one made that month was s/n 170825. Doing a fairly rough interpolation s/n 169908 would be approximately 2/3 of the way though the Super C's produced that month, hence the assumption of early in the third week of April 1953. Further using the engine s/n data provided in the same monthly report your tractor's original engine s/n would be approximately 175000 unless the original engine is no longer mated to your chassis. This information is only available on the monthly serial number report for 1953 which provides monthly production numbers only.
The above information was obtained through the on-line records available in the McCormick Collection at the Wisconsin Historical Society, HTH, Hal.

Wow. Thank you for all the great info. My in laws had the tractor and it hasn't run in 10 yrs. I cleaned it up yesterday and it started by hand cranking it. The starter is froze up I believe. I believe it is a 6 volt system but not too sure. It had a 12 volt battery on it which was dead of course. I hooked a 12 volt up cause I was told it would not run without a battery hooked up due to not having a magneto. I cranked right up and ran good with little or no smoke. J7st a light knocking by the flywheel. But I was just happy to see it running again. Thanks again

Mines a 1953, serial # 173728. Check your casting numbers, most of the big cast iron parts have them. Picture of 3, platform next to clutch pedal, rt.. side of touch control box under gas tank and right rear cast wheel. The Y at the end of the cast date equals 1953. So with a 4/29,a 5/20 and 5/26/53 it might of been built in early June.

Google "farmall super c serial numbers" and google gives you a list of starting serial numbers for each year of production for the Super C. This site also has serial number data, as does tractordata.com.

Remember the list is for the first serial number for each year, not the only serial number. Yours falls between the first serial number for 1953, and the first serial number for 1954, which means it is a 1953 model.

Finding out the month and possibly date of production requires the ability to access the Wisconsin Historical Society's website and dig through their archives to find the production documentation. Anyone can do it but you need to know it exists and how to find the right section with the information. Just getting a year is pretty simple, though.
