My reason for asking is keeping a tractor Club{s} current with interested membership, which all organizations are dealing with, needs an infusion of new members These organizations' need to move to the next level of technology that was afforded farmers Sorry for the rambling. CM

Not sure that any one thing would draw
more membership. Certainly. on these
forums, we welcome new posters, and
seemingly give special attention to the
young ones. The tractor hobby/bug is
something in the blood of each individual.
Its up to us to sow the seed of interest
and hope that it takes root. Some get it
and some don't. Some are too busy with
life to invest any time with tractors but
given time, perhaps retirement, they will
seek out membership as they foster the
interest. I plan on giving/cursing my two
sons with a tractor when I become unable
to continue. The newer technologies
certainly present a challenge as I think
there are fewer experts to help in
powershift and later technology problems.

Chuck, my opinion and what I've seen. Nearly all civic organizations/clubs are or nearly are gone. Lion's are not nearly what they were 40
years ago with many calling it quits. The same goes for JayCees, used to be a pretty thriving group of community members, don't even hear of
the jaycees anymore. Masons and Eastern star both chapters closed in a town near us and I don't know of many small towns that they exist in
around here. American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, both are closing posts due to lack of members. With youth programs starting much
younger now a days, soccer at 4 years old, cub scouts in kindergarten, and all extra curricular activities at the school house, coupled with
long bus rides. All grab the time of parents and as much as they might like to belong to a club or organization their time is used up after
their work day is done. One other attitude I've read on this site is that the current generation is worthless or something to that effect.
So why would anyone join a club where some members held that attitude. My opinion and my opinion only, many on this site cheer the youth in
many ways. Anyway just my ramblings for this morning, better get back to the shop. gobble

I think a lot of it has to come down to money. It is expensive to own and maintain farm/agricultural machinery for the younger age. (Heck its expensive for ME now.)

Lets say I was 18 again and I found a VAC that was unrestored but all there and needed some work to get it running. I would need probably $800 just to buy it (if I was lucky) and then I would need a pickup
truck and trailer to go get it. I would then need a place to store it where I could work on it. I would then need tools to work on it. I would then need time to work on it. I would then (preferably) need
something to do with it aside from look at it as a paperweight. I would then need to find a club that was interesting and not condescending towards me to join and then need that truck and trailer again to
haul my paperweight to their shows (more gas). I would also be pumping money into my paperweight to maintain it as it sat used/unused in the shed.

OR... (Now keep in mind, I do BOTH of these)

I could download a program that could let me download any video game for $60 and under and play with people of my same age group and mindset and even talk to them live from the comfort of my home without
having to invest any thing more than a $400 in a half decent computer to do so with almost $0 upkeep costs. I could do this in a comfy chair with heat and AC and all the tasty snacks and drinks nearby with
little physical effort. Heck, I could even purchase/download farming simulator games and get my farming fix that way.

I wouldn't need a truck and trailer, I wouldn't need a shop or tools, I wouldn't be paying for upkeep of a machine that I probable wouldn't have a use for. Heck, with a laptop I wouldn't even need a car. I
could then forgo the purchase of a house and live in an apartment since I would have to worry about the physical footprint it would take to keep some antique equipment.

To put it bluntly, it is too expensive and difficult for most of the younger generation to get into the antique clubs. You would basically have to be born into a farming/rural background with the resources
at hand to have something of a chance to get into it.

My two cents as a 32yr old who has been following this forum since he was 18.

I think the hours that people work and all the other family activities dont help either. there are many younger people that collect. Where is the little case with picker
located?

My feeling is that its harder to grow an attachment to
these older tractors if you never used them, they
werent part of your life growing up. I am 62, and my
dad had the VA and VAC14 Case tractors, and they
were the first tractors I got to drive. My first tractor
was a 430 J.I.Case, gas tractor, and I have been stuck
on the look and feel of the 30 series tractors for as
long as I can remember. I have 5 of them and we used
them regularly on our dairy farm pulling forage
wagons, manure spreaders, cutting hay, cultivating,
all kinds of jobs. And my boys are very much hooked
on these old tractors too. But why would anyone else
be interested if they never had exposure to these
things?
That rig in your photo sure looks smart !

I got a real rude awakening the other night watching a TV show. It was about a business in California that re-powers vintage cars with EV drivetrain. A seemingly younger affluent lady bought in a Porsche Boxster to be converted. One of the female shop employees was given the privilege of doing the first start up when the conversion was complete. When the vehicle started up and all the gauges and displays lit up, she shouted wow this is just like a video game ??

When the business owner returned the Porsche to the owner and they were on a road test on a winding road in California, she shouted......wow this is just like a video game !!

Video games are real.......and real life is competing to be just like a video game ????
