I went to plow today, but as John S said it was pretty dry. We have had 4"+ of rain in the past 30 days, but it was all in the form of gully washers and didn't soak in. I was bringing up blocks of dirt, not rolling soil. I struck out a land in last years dead furrow, and made one bout, but not happy with the job I was doing, so I quit. We got .02" this afternoon, but it hardly made the road wet. Kevin cut 3rd cutting Monday, but with the sun shaded by all the smoke, and less than 70s temps, it hasn't dried enough to make small squares yet either. Damned if we do and damned if we don't. I'm going back to making firewood. It doesn't make a difference if it rains or not. ---------Loren

I guess I don't see the problem ?? That pictured plowed ground would most certainly "crumble" into a BEAUTIFUL seed bed with just a cultimulcher for the second pass, no disc involved :) !! You can't imagine the SLABS of ground that we attempted to work down when the ground was TOO wet yet time was running out in the spring :-( . Awesome pics though, thanks for them !!

I am real fussy about what my plowing job looks like, and that is not even close. The ground will get wetter and plow much better and easier than now. No point to doing a lousy job, and wasting fuel when I can do a better job when there is more moisture in the soil. I normally run 1550# of reset pressure to plow. I had to set the pressure up to 1800# to keep the bottoms set in working position. Conditions will get better. Here is a pic from a couple of years back-----Loren

Loren: We always put Wheat after Oats. What will you plant there next Spring? We haven't had 4" all Summer. Any front that moves through is dry. Bring that rig here in this clay and I guarantee it will put that 930 up on her hind legs!!

Thanks for the "snowy" picture :). On a side note, in your original pic, your plow seems to be 5" deep at the most, is this due to the dry conditions in your area ? How hard is it on a clutch to get "re-started" with the plow in the ground after stopping in the middle of the "round" ?
