case 1370 issues

I just picked up a case 1370, it drives and shifts ok cold, once warm it will hardly move in low, does better at idle then with rpm, also notice the power steering has no assist as this happens, gauge to the left of the steering column drops fast into the red when this happens as well, the 2 sight levels on the right side of trans are really aerated as well when this is happening. Any ideas? I have a manual coming but it hasn't shown up yet.
Thanks

It sure sounds like your hydraulic pump is not delivering oil like
it should be. Could be a worn pump since you mentioned it
works best when cold. It also needs oil supplied to it from the
charge pump. If the filter pressure gauge in the dash is
reading normal pressure then the charge system is ok and
you will want to check out the hydraulic pump. Rod.

Thanks for your reply Rod, they tried a new pump on the right side of the tractor, its the only not orange part on it :) The guage drops fast on that charge pressure guage when it loses the drive power.

Ahhh.... right there is your problem, the charge system is not supplying needed oil to the main pump. The most common cause of the problem that you have described is a
plugged suction screen in the bottom of the trans. The only way to clean the screen good is to split the tractors. People have been creative in attempts to clean it by
draining the trans oil and removing either the PTO or trans shift cover and vacuuming debris off the screen. Rod.

Thanks again Rod, I think I may try the creative way first, sounds like a bit less work, It runs really good just gotta get this driving gremlin figured out. Too bad they didn't make it so a guy could remove it and clean er out

You wouldn't have a pic of one with the rear pto cover removed by chance? or pic of this filter at all in its location? Thanks

No I don't have a pic, personally if your rear tires are not slid in tight I would try the shift lever cover and go through that spot. I have never done one without
splitting the tractor so kinda hard to recommend a direction to go. My thoughts have always been if the screen is plugged that bad with metal filings or fiber off a
clutch pack I should be repairing the reason the screen is in that condition also. Rod.

Totally agree with that theory Rod, since its winter I will try through the shifter hole and see what we have for time in warmer weather for a full tear down. Stuffs coming from somewhere. I wont be using this thing very much at all but 5 mins of use now and its useless. Im glad you have been able to enlighten me on this rig and its operation. Wondering about this not using pto with power shift in reverse. What about blowing snow?

Blowing snow does not seem to affect anything as thousands of us owners use them for that also. The warning from CASE is do not do STATIONARY PTO work with the trans in
Rev. Filling silo, pumping manure and etc. will damage the PS if the shift is left in Rev, but is perfectly fine to do if it is NOT in Rev. Rod.

It actually functioned for about half an hour today without issues, although the first thing I noticed today is the trans filter gauge was way in the red but it worked the best it has since ive got it, the trans pressure stayed up till the end then went down. Hope to get shift plate out of it this week, We got a good bit of snow and it sure has to power to move it.

Well filters are out, look not bad, pulled charge pump, looks pretty good and seals look ok, have shifter cover off trans and just getting oil down to the level to see screen, some little stuff on it but will know more tomorrow when we get back at it, is there a drain hidden were missing, pulled the 2 on filters, then removed them and charge pump, pulled two on flat pan under diff, but using suction gun to get it out from screen area through shifter hole.

If the powershift has an internal leak will you lose all the hyd pressure? It looks aerated through the level windows on the trans. Getting new tires on it in the next week, then I guess splitting it in 2 to figure out whats wrong.
