Case 400 Starter

Bruce: I don't know what the "12L" means, but the MAX 4095 is what the parts book lists, and says 6V. That is what the starter here is. I might have an armature, but need to look @ the shop tomorrow nite & get back.

Is yours a round nose tractor? I found the B series starter for my 300 round nose and swapped the bendix head on a brand new Gladiator starter (12V); new B series had 9 teeth and my old mz4176 had 10 teeth. Tractor has started fine the couple times I have started it, haven't looked back into the starter yet to see if the gear head is pulling back all the way. If you can't find your starter, it may be the way to go. i have a thread from a couple weeks ago, when I pull the starter in a few days I'm going to post results if the head is pulling back far enough to disengage contact. The new starter is a ratchet style so it's not bothering the teeth on the flywheel/starter if it is turning.
