Slowly Getting the 770 In Shape

Almost everything needed attention on this tractor and I mean everything. Only things I have left is to do is overhaul the engine, remote valve and power brake valve. There were things wrong on this tractor that must have taken a previous operator years to mess up. It does run and operate well now and when it is done should be a good tractor. I removed the replacement Stanley muffler and put the oval muffler from a 970 on it. It sounds much better and quieter, the difference is amazing, this muffler will stay on. The air filter I removed set a new record for me as being in service the most years. Even if it was a couple years old when installed we are still looking at way over 30 years, not good. Rod.

Amazing Rod, it really is a testament to how tough these tractors are. I can relate, as my "SC" I know hadn't had a oil change I bet for years, once I got fresh oil in her it was impressive, like breathing new life.

Rod as always you do amazing work. One thing about it models like them are worth putting money in compared to the electronic garbage on todays tractors that are always split from stem to stern with few hours at our local dealer.Just a shame the way tractors are today.Scott

Steve the engine runs good but seeps coolant into the engine oil and the oil pressure is a little low, as for the hours know one knows cause the darn tach did not work either. Rod.

That air filter is really something. The one that came in my 1030 was stamped Nov 67, the tractor was built in 68, so it was the factory original filter. No wonder the engine was so bad.

Jon I wish we knew why some things are so neglected. Was it the cost or did they not know they needed changing. Did not know how much it cost if they did not change them. Think of all the fuel wasted after thousands of hours. Rod.

Rod, Other then putting fuel in and it starts and moves what else is there to check! Lol! I moved a neighbors 970 feed wagon tractor a few years ago and when I went to start it there was no key. He had a flat washer wired with baling wire to the dash that he used in the key way to start it.Looked like that was the normal way of starting it for quite some time.Believe me the rest of the tractor was in bad shape too.Glad to hear that your 770 will get the care it needs to be show room quality once again. Looks like you did combine some beans. Hows that going? Take care, Darrell

Rod,you spoke of the air filter, is there an expiration date to that style? We run A/C tractors and a combine with that style but dad just makes me blow them out LOL!!
I must admit that 1 of them is far from "snow white" colored pleats. Thanks and that's a good looking 770, I spent a few hundred hours on a neighbors 870

I have to get this one of the twins back is shape to sell.
It needs sleeves and pistons to make it saleable.
I sold my 310 dozer, so this winter I will have money to repair it and ready it for sale in the spring.

Hi Darrell, I only combined those few beans with the 660 just to try it. We need a couple sunny days and then we would have about 50 ac ready, rest will be a week or two yet. Rod.

I should have bought yours Loren, that sure would have saved me a bunch of time and work, Rod.
