shifter plate gasket for 300/400/500 series

I am having trouble finding case part g10342. It is the gasket for the plate on top of the tranny that the gear shift fits in. Any still around, or should I go liquid gasket route?
 
If you can't find the original gasket buy bulk 1/32" gasket material at any auto parts store and cut one out to fit. An opening and flat surface like that is ideal for tapping out the gasket outline with a ballpeen.

While you have the shifter cover off I you think mentioned in a past post about finding the speedometer cable drive on a 351. I am not sure about the 351 but 300/300B and some other number series tractor have the speedometer drive in the transmission. The driven gear on the drive is a phenolic plastic material that is driven by a metal worm gear. Check it out for damage before you hookup a cable.

Thanks on the speedo tip. My cable is gone from the outside I think. I had so little time with the tractor after I got it I hadn't had a chance to see what happend to tach and speedo cables exept to know they arent hooked up to the dash. thanks for the photos too.
 
I should have known John would have the gasket. Changes are he will have nearly anything you need.

The common reason cables are missing is they are not oiled periodically. Also the speedometer and tachometer instrument movements tend to get stuck in the bearing when not used for an extended period and then twist off the cable core. They both are the same movement, opposite sweep, and have oilers. To check free, briskly spin the brass knob (fingers only, no tools), pointer will jump if spun in direction of sweep if really free. They can usually be soaked free if stuck hard but that's for another post when you get that far along.
