Shifter problem

I have a 1970 Case 570 AT with a loader and I believe there is something disconnected or broken in the shifting mechanism. I can only seem to get it into one forward gear and one reverse gear. It has a case o matic and I was told that it has a double stack H pattern 8 speed. Can I take off the plate that the shifter goes through to inspect without parts flying out?

The 570 didn't have the Case-O-Magic drive, but the 530 did. What lever arrangement do you have on the transmission? There should be a lever for the standard 4 speed, then to the right there should be a lever for either the dual range or triple range. With the Case-O-Magic it most likely a dual range. On the left side there will be a shuttle shift lever, or a hand clutch lever. One thing I am sure of is that the 570 or 530 didn't have the double stack 8 speed gear arrangement.

Larry: According to the parts books, the 570 Ag tractor did not come w/ C-O-M, but the 570 AT was available with C-O-M. However, I have no idea what may be the shifter problem. Cover will have to come off for inspection.

I guess I didn't dig deep enough into the online parts site.

Pull the cover. There will be no surprises. Look at the cover and rails. There may be bushings on the rails so that only one gear forward and reverse could be used. Not sure on this though.
I am going to look at a M570AT tomorrow. I may know more after looking at this one.

I took the cover off this afternoon. I have included a few pictures for your help. I noticed that one of the forks has been welded but otherwise most looks good to this rookie tractor nut. is there a trick to getting the plate back on and the forks in the right place?
The fluid is obviously the wrong color. (water)?
Thanks for any info that u can provide me before I invest in a manual.
You all have been extremely helpful so far.

In my limited experience working on transmissions, I found that lining everything up in neutral before you put the top back on the transmission helps. I'm also interested as to what is going on with your shifter. I wonder if the welder fork has something to do with it?
