Gray smoke in Case CK exhaust

My 1970 CK 580 always has grayor gray and blue smoke when I run it, both loaded or not. Its not thick, but is visible across the field. I checked the radiator, it doesn't seem to be using water. The exhaust smells like smoke, not sweet.

I've seen in some forums people saying old Case tractors naturally smoked. If so, should I ignore it? Extend the stack?

Or are there things I should check?

Thank you,

Scott

Blue exhaust is oil. I would run some fuel
conditioner/injector cleaner through it. But don't get
too nervous just yet

Calls for a compression check. At the same time, of course, look for oil fouling on the spark plugs, since you have them out anyway. Each cylinder should have over 100 psi pressure, and all should be within 10% of each other. If that's good, clean or replace the plugs as necessary and recheck it all once or twice a year, more if you use it daily.

I give my older Case tractors a good drink of Automatic Transmission Fluid , ever so often, seems to make them run better. I pour a half
gallon into a tank of fuel, and run them hard. Sure they smoke a bit on that tank of fuel , but no much smoke on the nest tank. I have no
idea what you use your tractor for, but I think most only use their tractors for light jobs , and never for a long run, and the tractors
never really get worked and hot. My older tractors will run the best when they get a good work out now and then, like 4-5 hours on a
cultivator, or all day pulling a haybine.

I forgot to mention, this is a diesel engine.

Well, you can cancel the part about the spark plugs! But point remains the same, the compression tester is more expensive though, and forget the push-in type. While the injectors are out, any diesel shop should be able to clean them for you, IDK what it costs these days but it takes about 5 minutes per injector and you get your breakover pressure measured in the bargain, and the tractor may run smoother. But a diesel is more likely to burn a bit of oil because of the higher compression. And don't forget the basic maintenance stuff--oil changed lately? Air filter?
