930CK whine noise

Hey guys, I have a 67 Case 930CK that has a whine noise coming from the transmission in high range. Is this normal?

Is the rear-end full of oil? Couple gallons over full doesn't hurt either.

Is there a cab on the tractor? That will accelerate any normal transmission noises. Both my "930" & "1030" have some. You could take a oil analysis to see if you have some things going on in there.

I learned at Cat that moderate whine in spur gears does NOT shorten gear life. Cat's bull dozers were allowed to have gear whine because other noises cover up the gear whine. It is more expensive to make quiet gears so whiney gears were made and they lasted "forever".

My 1170 has some high range gear whine. Always been that way and has never gotten worse.

I have a 730 that has a whine in high that never really concerned me, have owned it for nearly 20 years. I can not say there is nothing wrong with your tractor or mine. Several years ago a customer bought a 830 that had a whine in high that bothered him, he insisted we take it apart and correct the problem, so I did take it apart. I could find nothing wrong and put it back together. Yes it still whines, Rod.
