Allis B overhaul

When you are ready to start a newly overhauled engine, do you use a particular oil or break in procedure?

On a tractor I just use the same type oil I would like it had not been overhaul and run it just like I would run it other then not lugging it. The very first tractor I ever overhauled was a hand start B my dad had and I was home on leave from the Navy when I did that. I was 19 or so years old

Thank you. I thought maybe I would leave the spark plugs out and pull it around with another tractor for a few thousand RPMs

You may find you will have to pull start it but that is it. The one I did we had to pull start it but it was also hand crank only

Couldn't hurt to put a ZDDP additive for the break-in period. I used the Lucas brand. The outfit that ground the camshaft said use it the first time, not needed after that.

why, that is nuts. start it and run it to operating temperature at a fast idle for an hr. then go to work. I would be retorquing the head and setting valves after the hr. then go to work. just don't lug it down. what do you think the factories do to new engines. they run the heck out of them with no special oil.
