Allis g does it matter

Does it matter, if positive and negative are changed to negative and positive, the reason I ask I got this Allis G and when I put the 6 V battery in the cable from the starter only fitted on the positive post and the cable from the ground only fastened on the negative post yet in the directions it says that the tractor is positive ground does it matter? what are the bad effects with a negative ground and positive to the starter?.
Thanks the 84 year old.
Jack

If it has a generator, it should be 6v positive ground. They were 6v positive ground from the factory. The starter doesn't care what it gets. If it has a mag that doesn't matter either. Generator vs alternator is the difference.

? when I put the 6 V battery in? "in the directions it says that the tractor is positive ground".

Was this a battery you took out of the tractor, or are you going solely by what the book says. It was originally 6 volt positive ground, but it does not have to stay that way.

The positive post on the battery is larger than negative post, so your battery cables are saying the last battery was installed negative ground. It could have been changed to 6 volt negative ground which will work equally well if properly configured.

Or it may have been changed to 12 volt. Does it have an alternator or generator?

Thanks much you guys, for the reply yes it has a generator and if nothing is going to be affected by it such as the points the lights or anything else I?m
going to leave it negative ground and by the way I have a 6 foot grader blade and the undercarriage for it for sale , and also some tires I will put a
picture of the tires on to look at thanks again Jack

Yes, it matters. Originally 6V pos Gnd. To change to 6v neg Gnd. You would have to reverse the wires on the Amp meter, Coil, and would need to repolarize the Generator. In theory that should work, however, I have never tried it.

I?m very interested in the grader blade if original and may be interest in the tires depending on my final cost. Regardless about tires let me know about grader blade. Also need your location to figure shipping cost. I?m from Taylorsville, Kentucky by the way. Very glad to have met you. Looking forward to your reply

Keep it orange, Regards,
