B oil bath air cleaner

My tractor came with this set up.
Looking at photos I don't see
anything like it. When I put the
tall piece in the air breather
tube it sits about an inch in the
oil in the cup. I don't think
that's right. Should I trim it a
bit? Any thoughts on what it's
from?

Photo didn't come through. Air comes down the pipe INTO the oil. As it comes back up the oil, it pulls oil up through the mesh around the filter. The dirt in the air gets trapped in the oil and settles back into the cup. Think of it like blowing bubbles in a glass of milk, only the engine is sucking the air through the milk from the straw. Don't change a thing.

So, the long pipe fits right down inside the original one? As others are saying, the air needs to travel through the oil anyhow. Probably off a combine, or power unit. Probably was a screen fastened around that top part. That's going to be sticking up so far on the tractor it will probably just get bent anyhow. You might just want to get an original type cap, which are readily available.
 
I had to switch to classic view to see the pictures. Odd. Anywho. That looks exactly like the combine air cleaner pipe on page 32 of the AGCO parts book on line. It was taller to get to cleaner air. It actually clamped to the top of the original cleaner. Both it and the exhaust were extended to get taller. They were braced back to the engine. Nice original piece, but I bet if you pull the bowl off the air cleaner, you will see the pipe as it should be. What you have is basically and extension of the top.

Y'all are smart! I found a couple pictures of that air breather on Google. On a combine! I would love to know the story of how it got on a B!!

At one time that B may have pulled an all crop 60 combine so they wanted the intake up out of the dust cloud
