B knocks at cold startup

So my B that I have had for about 9 yrs has always had a motor knock and is slow to build oil pressure when started if it has sat for a couple days. Air temperature does not matter. I don't rely on it for everyday use so I never got to worried about it. Sometimes it might get started every day for a week (rarely) and others it might go a month between starts. I have done regular maintenance to it and did a paint job a few years ago. This past summer my dad and I pulled the pan and the oil screen was darn near clogged. (I will attach pictures) We shimmed and reset all bearings in bottom end, none of which had any abnormal wear. After all this and a clean screen I figured the cold start knock and slow pressure build would be gone, however it remains. I am wandering if maybe the oil pump might have some play in it causing it to be slow to build pressure. I have no problem splitting the tractor to check it out but just thought I would see if anyone else had any other ideas before I did.

Another pic of the B to show that the paint really is the right color. The rest of the lineup is some of our other tractors at the local show a couple years. All the tractors in the line are ours.

It seems the most common question is if the center tube is still in your oil filter? What thickness of engine oil do you use? My B wasn't exactly slow at building the pressure but it
also had a knock on cold start up until using 30W oil and one can of STP, now the knock is gone. I'm aware that so many guys condemn STP but personally I've used it in different
engines now and then for between 40 and fifty years with no complaints. Of course for people that don't do regular oil changes they like to blame the STP if there's sludge etc... I
have disassembled several engines in which I've used STP and never had sludge build up from using it. On my B I have also cleaned that screen in the suction to the oil pump
(shortly after buying the tractor) but that had no influence on the knock before or after.

Yes the tube is still there. Even bought an A/C filter from local dealer instead of Napa for the last change and no difference. Use 15-30 oil.

As for STP I used to use it years ago but have gotten away from it. May have to give it a go next time.
