D-19 Starter

Need to get a new starter gear, all the teeth are wore off. Took the two screws out that holds the cone on, but can't get the gear assembly off the starter shaft. Is it just stuck or is there another screw I am missing.

I think I have a starter in the shop that should be similar. I'll pull it down tomorrow. It's a different starter, from a 4.248 Perkins (like off a late 175), but has the same elongated housing so probably comes apart the same way. I've never pulled one of those apart either.

Talked to a old mechanic and he said there is a pin under that spring you need to drive out. Hope I can get the spring out of the way enough to get it out. Ordered a new gear drive from you folks yesterday so when it gets here will see what I got. Thanks

They must be different. The 175/816 starter did not have a pin, and the housing comes off with some urging. The drive itself on this and in the ones shown in DRs Operation and Maintenance guide are held on by a clip on the shaft (you can see the groove in the shaft in this photo). The Dyer Drive style have a cotter and washer. Sorry I can't provide more help on the specific starter.
