D17 engine removal

I was recently approached by a local farmer, to diag a noise in his d17, no oil pressure, sounds like a rod knocking hard. He has a replacement engine from a combine, I'm a master ford tech so I'm sure I can handle this, my question what's a time estimate to remove and replace an engine, it's a 1965 I think with p/s and a loader, how big of a job is this?? Can't wait to get some good feed back. Thanks

A lot depends on how your shop is set up. Me it would be an easy job but I have 4 chain hoists set up in line so I can lift the front end off while holding it up at the transmission and then pull the engine. I could have to whole job done start to finish in well under 8 hours. If of course you did not run into any things that slowed you down. That does not include having to pull a loader off etc.

do I have to remove the frame rails, that's where the loader attaches in the front, I planned on blocking the tractor, I understand I need to remove the front axle , if the tractors blocked up, no front end, can I use a cherry picker to snatch the engine

The reason I built my shop like I did was so it was easy to work on cars, trucks and tractors. I have an I Beam that runs from the back of my shop to as close to the front as I can go and 3 of the 4 chain hoists are on trolley's so I can move things forward or back wards. Had a IH 656 last summer that was in so many parts that all 4 hoist where holding part of it up plus had one part hanging on a chain that I hooked to the i-beam

To get the engine out, you have to pull the front bolster. From there it's not worth trying to work around the frame rails. The loader sure doesn't help. With no loader I'd probably go 6 hours labor time on a complete plug and play running engine.
