Had to remove engine to do some work on it, after reassembling, power steering does not work. Worked good prior to removing pump, steers very hard. Fluid level up, seems as if pump is not pulling in fluid, any suggestions??

Yes double checked today, it would be difficult to cross them with the hard steal lines. Also checked schematic in manual. May have to seek professional help.

You don't say which style of pump you have....belt driven?? or the older governor driven style. Regardless, the largest line of the three is the suction line and it has a hose with 2 hose clamps on it. It must be tight on both ends and the clamps and the hose can't be soft and rotten with age or it may suck air instead of oil. I'd verify the proper oil level ahead of the radiator, and then probably loosen the smallest line at the pump to help purge things. Get yourself and air hose with a blow gun and be able to gently put light air pressure into the oil fill hole ahead of the radiator while the engine is running just above an idle, to get the pump to prime. You'll have to engineer some sort of rubber tip with a chunk of heater hose or whatever to seal the oil fill hole so you can make air pressure.

dads early D17 came from the factory not working. He had it to he local ag mechanic for some reason , must have been about 1960. I was 9 at the time and I ask Fred the mechanic to look at it, he did and said he found a 1/2 moon key missing on a shaft. I have no Idea where it was but the steering worked after that. You might ck it out.

My D-17 Series 1 also does not work. filled it up and ran unit, it would not steer to one
side. stopped and cked the oil level and it again was low. Then for some reason I checked
the engine oil and it was way over filled. So I drained the engine oil and some of the PS
oil and left it alone. Figured the oil was somehow getting into the engine oil since this
is a governor driven pump. Now I only have manual steering. Good luck hope you find out
whats up wish I could help.
