Collector Profile for Todd R Kitchen | I have been around John Deere tractors all my life. We currently own a 1947 B, a 1952 A, and a 1963 4010 as well as some newer Deere's. My father ued the A with a 237 mounted corn picker to harvest ear corn until about 1980 when we started to shell all of our corn. In fact that tractor , wich was purchased new by my grandfather in Spencer IN. for 2150, actually wore out 2 model 227 picker's over the years before we got the 237. Never will I forget the crisp november air, and the sound of bang! bang! bang!, as the old A charged through the hazy fog off the white river pulling in those frosty stalk's. The tractor still sit's in the barn on our farm ready and able to go to work in a moment's notice. We also owned for many years a 52 G and a 41 B that dad traded for larger tractor's over the years. Had we known these tractor's would be so populer today, (or maybe just that we would come to miss them so much) we most certainly have kept them too. I would enjoy corresponding with others who have intrest's or stories to share about ' AGELESS IRON ' . I used to wish when I was growing up that dad would go to usng more modern equipment. We were about the last in our area to actually depend on 2 cylinder tractors. Little did I know back then that those experience's would come to be what I now consider the greatest gift dad ever gave to me. At 36 years old im sure a lot of people my age cannot comprehend stories like the one I wrote above. Todd R Kitchen, IN, entered 2000-02-17 My Email Address: Not Displayed |
